FOR HOMEOWNERS WITH A SOLAR LOAN

A solar loan. A power bill. Why both?

You were told solar would end your power bill. Now you pay for both.

If your buyback deal changed, your extra solar may earn just pennies. Then, at night, you buy power again. See why it happens, and how a battery can help.

WHY IT’S HAPPENING

You sell low by day.
You buy high at night.

Here’s what happens at your house every day.

DAY

You make extra power.

Your panels make more than your house can use.

GRID

You sell it for a few cents.

The extra goes to the grid. Many buyback deals now pay pennies.

NIGHT

You buy power at full price.

The sun sets. Your panels stop. You buy from the grid.

It’s like a lemonade stand. You’d lose money every day. That’s what’s happening to your solar.

It’s not just Texas. California, Illinois and Connecticut have cut what they pay for home solar, too. Wherever buyback shrinks, solar owners end up with two bills.

Texas has no statewide net metering law, so buyback rates depend on your provider and plan. 3¢ and 14¢ are example rates from the bill illustration below. Your bill or Electricity Facts Label shows your real numbers.

BEFORE YOU BUY MORE PANELS

More panels won’t fix a nighttime problem.

Already making extra power by day? More panels make more daytime power. A battery saves some for night.

More panels: a bigger loan, and more power still sent out for pennies.

A battery: your own solar, saved for night.

THE FIX

Save your solar
for tonight.

Your extra solar fills the battery by day. Your home can use that stored power at night.

Batteries through SolriteUp to 60 kWh of storage at your home. A home battery like this usually costs $20,000 to $40,000 to buy.

Solrite owns the batteries. Solrite maintains and replaces them.

Program terms, in short: 20-year agreement. In Texas, you enroll with a Solrite-approved electricity provider, and leaving that provider early carries a penalty. For solar homes with a loan or panels paid in full. Leased solar and PPA systems don’t qualify. Electric co-ops and city-owned utilities, including Austin Energy, aren’t eligible. See program terms

WHY DOES IT COST SO LITTLE?

The grid pays for help.

At peak times, Solrite sends short bursts of stored power to help the grid. The grid pays for that help. That money helps fund the program.

BatteryGridPays Solrite

You get full credit, too. When Solrite sends your battery energy to the grid, you get credit at the same rate you pay. Pay 19¢? You get 19¢. That’s 1:1.*

Includes the battery fee. Does not include your solar loan or other charges.

Stored energy is used at home OR exported — never counted twice.

Same 14¢/kWh purchase rate in both examples.

Assumes 1,000 kWh of monthly surplus solar and 1,000 kWh of later demand. Solar-only export credit: 3¢/kWh. Battery returns 90% of stored solar: 900 kWh. No battery exports in this example. Other charges excluded.

*1:1 applies to eligible Solrite-directed battery exports, not all solar sent to the grid. See the full credit terms below.

Michael reviews your bill and runs the numbers for your home.

03

Install / enroll.

Review eligibility and program terms, then choose your next step.

NO SOLAR YET?No solar? Ask about the battery plan.

No panels needed. A Duracell battery plus a lower electricity rate, through Solrite.

01

A Duracell battery goes at your home.

It saves power so your home can use it later.

02

Your electricity gets cheaper.

Through the program, you can switch to a lower rate. Example: 18¢ drops to 14¢ per kWh.

03

Your lights stay on in an outage.

When the grid goes down, your home can run on the battery.

Is my home eligible?

In Texas, homes with retail electric choice can join: Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas and TNMP service areas. Electric co-ops and city-owned utilities (like Austin Energy or Pedernales Electric Co-op) aren’t eligible yet. Michael can confirm with your ZIP.

I lease my solar panels. Can I do this?

Not right now. Solrite’s battery program is for homeowners who own their solar, paid in cash or with a loan. Leased and PPA systems can’t connect yet. Send Michael your info anyway; Solrite is keeping a list for when that changes.

What does it cost?

$0 upfront and $20 a month. The monthly fee covers monitoring, software, dispatch management and the hardware warranty, including battery replacements during the term. Rates, fees, eligibility and program terms must be verified for your home.

Is there a contract?

Yes. The battery program is a 20-year agreement, and in Texas your home enrolls with a Solrite-approved electricity provider. Leaving that provider early carries a penalty, because your battery’s grid work is what funds the discounted rate. Michael will walk you through the agreement and Electricity Facts Label (EFL) before you sign.

Will Solrite drain my battery before a storm?

No. Dispatches are short and a reserve is always kept for backup. Before severe weather, storm mode prioritizes a full charge.

What happens in an outage?

The battery stores energy for use during grid outages. Backup coverage depends on system design, and actual backup duration varies.

What if I sell my house?

The agreement transfers with the home. Solrite works with the buyer’s lender to make the transfer clean.

I have solar. Why do I still get an electric bill?

Your panels make the most power in the afternoon, when you’re using the least. The extra goes to the grid, and many buyback deals now pay only a few cents for it. At night you buy power back at the full rate. A battery lets you save that afternoon power and use it at night instead.

Do I need more panels?

Usually not. More panels make more daytime power, and daytime is when you already have extra. The costly part of the bill happens at night. Michael can look at your bill and show you where your money is going.

Do I have to replace my current solar?

No. The battery is added to the solar you already have. Michael will check that your system and home are a fit.

How does Solrite pay for the batteries?

Your battery joins a virtual power plant. During peak demand, Solrite uses short dispatches (30 seconds to 5 minutes) and other grid services. The grid pays for that help, and that revenue covers the equipment and funds your discounted rate.

How does the 1:1 export credit work?

Eligible, Solrite-directed battery exports receive a credit at the applicable plan’s per-kWh import rate, including per-kWh delivery. Direct solar exports do not qualify. Grid energy used to charge the battery is billed. See the full credit terms in the footer.

I don’t have solar. Can I still do this?

Yes. There’s a battery plan with a lower electricity rate for homes without panels. Michael can check eligibility for your home and ZIP.
